SYLVIA is a Senior Associate and Conveyancer with 8 years of post-admission experience. She has gained experience across multiple disciplines of the law and has worked with SOEs, regulatory bodies, and private institutions amongst others.

Professional Journey: 

Sylvia was admitted as an Attorney in April 2016, after completing her articles of clerkship at a reputable boutique law firm in Johannesburg. She obtained her right of appearance in the High Court in June 2016. Consequently, she was promoted to Associate, a position she held until June 2020. She then joined another reputable boutique law firm in Johannesburg as a Senior Associate. In July 2022, Sylvia brought her extensive experience to MBA Incorporated, joining as an Associate and later being promoted to Senior Associate in June 2023.

In January 2023, she was appointed as a committee member for the LPC's Gauteng Office. She is currently on a three-month long secondment at Transnet SOC, serving as a Senior Litigation Advisor.

Experience Highlights:

Sylvia’s extensive post-admission experience spans a wide range of practice areas, including but not limited to:

  • Acting on behalf of South African Revenue Services (“SARS”) in a High Court application for a preservation order in terms of section 163 of the Income Tax Act, aimed securing the assets of a prominent taxpayer in order to recover an amount of R525,000,000.00 (five hundred and twenty-five million rands) owed to SARS.
  • Acting on behalf of the SIU in its effort to recover damages suffered by a state-owned entity. The matter is a review application issued out of the Specia Tribunal, to set aside an unlawful PPE contract, which resulted in the state-owned company being defrauded of an amount of R33,000,000.00 in taxpayer’s money.
  • Reviewed and advised on credit agreements which fall within the ambit of the National Credit Act (NCA) and agreements which do not fall within the ambit of the NCA
