Samantha Levinsohn

Executive Consultant

Qualifications:
LLB (University of Stellenbosch, 2009)
BA Hons (University of Stellenbosch, 2009)

Date of Admission: 2011

SAMANTHA obtained her LLB degree from the University of Stellenbosch in 2009 and at the end of the same year obtained her honours in English Literature, which she studied towards part-time during her LLB. She completed her articles of clerkship with Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr and was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in February 2011.

She subsequently moved to Johannesburg and was employed as a Professional Assistant at the niche corporate and commercial law firm, Prinsloo, Tindle & Andropoulos where she was principally assigned to the mergers and acquisitions and banking and finance teams working under Danny Andropoulos and Michael Teubes (now directors at Werksmans and Fasken respectively).

In June 2013 Samantha moved to DM5 Incorporated where she was employed as an Associate in the corporate and commercial department under the mentorship of Neo Moshimane. During her time at DM5 she personally assisted in growing the commercial department from a sole commercial associate to six associates and was responsible for mentoring candidate attorneys who assisted on several of the commercial transactions on which she was the lead associate. Samantha was also successful in her first intermediate competition law filing during her time at DM5, ultimately resulting in the introduction of a new tyre brand in the South African tyre market.

Samantha joined fledgling law firm, Bembridge Minnaar Attorneys as a Senior Associate in October 2014 in order to grow their corporate commercial offering. There she provided the full range of corporate and commercial legal services to private clients and was essentially responsible for the drafting of any and all commercial instructions received by the firm.

In May 2017, Samantha joined the firm of Poswa Incorporated where she was employed as a Senior Associate in the banking and finance and corporate and commercial department. Shortly after joining Poswa Inc, she was assigned to the new Sasol 10-year broad-based black economic empowerment transaction known as Sasol Khanyisa. Poswa Inc. was partnered with ENSAfrica on this transaction due to the sheer size and volume of work required, as well as Sasol's commitment to meaningful empowerment. This transaction necessitated a dedicated drafting team of which Samantha was a part, together with her mentor, Chris Ntuta from Poswa Inc. The drafting team extended to the likes of Michael Katz and Miranda Feinstein from ENSAfrica, as well as a plethora of other attorneys across law firms and practice areas and worked together for approximately a year and a half, sitting daily with client and its legal team and drafting in real time. This transaction navigated so many complex issues, not only as regards interactions with the sponsor and the JSE, but also, because of its size and impact across a diverse workforce, a significant number of the South African public and the plethora of stakeholders affected. This was the most challenging, but equally rewarding transaction Samantha has worked on in her career to date.

In July 2019 Samantha was employed as a Senior Manager in the PwC Tax - Legal and Mergers and Acquisitions team, based in Johannesburg. This role required her to exclusively service the legal requirements of clients of the firm, rather than deal with in-house legal matters and she gained experience across multiple teams and was required to regularly build, cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external clients across the professional services platforms offered by PwC on a range of transactions. During her time with PwC, she attended a multitude of mandatory and voluntary training courses ranging from marketing and social media platform usage to entry level robotics.

After giving birth to her first child in February 2020, Samantha decided to enter the world of legal consulting and fixed term contract work. The biggest of her clients during this time, provided, amongst others, professional economic development services, advisory, bidding and financial close advice to Sponsors, EPC’s, O&M’s and Lenders in the renewable energy market. As a result, she has participated in the economic development component of both the RMIPPP and Rounds 5 and 6 of the REIPPP programme.

Samantha joined MBA Incorporated as an Associate Partner in the corporate and commercial team in November 2022 and has 11 years’ post-admission working experience.
